Wallets: Physical or Crypto?

What’s in your wallet? Do you carry a wallet today, or just use your phone for everything? Are your cards scattered about your purse, hoping to be organized in an orderly fashion? Do you have dollar bills strewn all about, aching to have a home of their very own? Or, are you a fully crypto wallet type? It is 2022, after all, so that wouldn’t be so wild of a thought. Many of us have a balanced collection of credit cards, cash and online payment options. If you’re in the market for a superior credit card, I can’t recommend the Chase Sapphire cards enough. The travel benefits are endless, the customer service is helpful and kind, and you can travel in peace knowing you’re in good hands with their card benefits.

As for my wallet, it’s a physical one, and is currently one of my own design and making. It’s made of a dark oil brown leather, with four pockets, 2 on the outside and 2 on the inside. It’s outfitted with a buffalo nickel on the front to add a little razzle dazzle. I ordered these a while back, and just started using them this month (October 2022), and really admire the balance they give to the wallets I’ve been putting them onto. Some with deep sea teal leather and shell cordovan, others with the dark oil brown leather. Choosing a favorite leather is like trying to choose a favorite steak from a pile of filet mignons. It can’t be done, in my life anyway, so I continue to make items from a variety of leathers in front of me.

In the past, I’ve used the beloved Port wallet from Craft & Lore and heaps of others. I backed the Kickstarter campaign from Chad Von Lind for the Port wallet, and a true shot in the dark, messaged him to ask if I could pick it up in person, since I’d be in the area around the time he was sewing them. He obliged, I met him at his first workshop, and he’s the coolest person you’ll ever meet in the PNW. I also used their Operator Wallet for a bit, in green. While it was a bit too large for my daily carry preference and didn’t stay firmly in my pockets the moving about, the designed was ideal and the leather was dreamy. Others I’ve fancied are the beefy Red Hills Leather wallet for a while. It’s a one off with a canvas inlay, and veg tan innards. Really quite a hefty wallet, and easy to keep up with! The canvas option from Tanner Goods is one of my earliest nice wallet purchases. I picked it up in their Portland shop around 2014 and used it for a long while. I’ve probably bought 200 or more wallets throughout the last several years, so accounting for them here will be an impossible feat. However, these are some respectable highlights, and respectable company staples in the industry. The quality of each is phenomenal, their items will last for decades to come, and I strive to be as well rounded in their design and craft as they are.

Since childhood, I had a deep fascination and appreciation of wallets and money. I had my own from kindergarten, and almost always had money in my pocket. Though the quality of materials and craftsmanship have improved over the years, the appreciation, enthusiasm and fascination have remained almost childlike in nature. Whether you opt for a front pocket, minimalist carry, or a wallet you can feel, I’ve got you covered.
